In her new photography exhibit, "Beyond the Eye", "Sharon Abeles draws the viewer into a pure expanse of shape and shadow, energy and stillness. Sparks of light and color ignite the imagination, stimulating our mind and senses, inviting us Beyond the Eye.

Abstract photographs of crystal and glass are taken from the artist's china cabinet in her dining room. Included in the collection are vases, fruit bowls, plates, wine glasses, decanters, kiddush cups, candy dishes, an ice bucket, salt & pepper shakers, plus an eclectic display of judaica pieces.

These heirlooms and some modern household items, create a visual augmented reality of sentimental inanimate objects.

Sharon Abeles’ photography exhibit “Beyond the Eye” pulls you into a world of power in stillness. Still life photographs of glass, light and color combine the elements earth, water, fire and air, and both embrace and empower the senses. The subtlety ignites the imagination and takes one into a world beyond our mental constructs: it is a world beyond the eye. Her artistic vision and precision open up vistas of possibilities in shape, color and angle, that challenge us to question what we accept as truth, in the world of matter and the divine. One might see what looks like sea creatures, flames within the core of light shadow and form, holy vessels, copper, metallic folds and curves with an energy that draws us in as we are transported to a place that mirrors our own depth, a depth that often goes without seeing.

Come inside, these photographs beckon, come away from time and space as we know it. Enter a pure expanse of shape and shadows of color, as energy becomes sparks of light. There is something both profound and majestic about this work. The subject of each photograph evokes a feeling of royalty and refinement that makes one feel uplifted and even exalted. Through the simple medium of camera, glass and light, the photographer takes us on a journey that stimulates the mind and senses, as we leave critical mind and go beyond ourselves and experience “the Eye,” we expand beyond our own critical mind and we come away with a deeper, more enhanced sense of ourselves.
